Dr. Jeff discusses whether you can reinsert earrings after a long break or whether it’s better to have them professionally pierced. www.quixana.com Jennifer Hi Dr. Jeff. Dr. Jeff: Good morning. Jennifer: So I’ve had my ears pierced for a long time, but I don’t really wear earrings anymore, until recently. I’ve seen this fabulous pair that I’m thinking about purchasing, but I don’t know if I’m going to be able to just push them through or if I’m going to need to professionally have my ears pierced again. Dr. Jeff: How long has it been since you wore pierced earrings? Jennifer: Probably six months to a year. Dr. Jeff: Usually the holes will stay open for a month or two maybe a little bit longer assuming that you had worn earrings for a long time after that and the holes were well established. If you don’t wear your earrings for a month or two, and you want to try to reinsert them, you can, but I recommend a few important things first. Definitely clean the posts off with rubbing alcohol, and I also recommend cleaning both sides in the ear lobes with a little rubbing alcohol as well. And then once you reinsert them, every day turn the posts a little bit so that it helps the hole establish itself again, and it’ll keep open longer. But I think you’re looking at a professional re-piercing here. Jennifer: Okay, good to know. Thank you Dr …
